Teacher Leadership Academy: With the support of the Sun Family Foundation, Above & Beyond Teaching ("ABT") offers the Teacher Leadership Academy (TLA) each academic year. Early career teachers, in their first through sixth year of teaching, are invited to participate in a number of activities designed to support and assist them through the challenges of their new career, while encouraging them to stay in the profession as more successful in their teaching. Each novice teacher is carefully matched, by both content area and school environment, with one of the experienced award-winning ABT Honoree teachers as a one-on-one mentor. These pairs meet every month to discuss pedagogy, classroom management, family engagement, and other issues for new teachers. They also work together to create a set of goals and activities for the new teacher. Additionally, the new teacher participates in monthly webinars, interactive with the other new teachers, and delivered by one of the ABT Honorees. The new

Each year, Above & Beyond Teaching endeavors to recognize and award outstanding California public high school teachers who teach in disadvantaged urban and rural communities and who consistently help their students transcend their academic expectations. These teachers demonstrate a curiosity for on-going learning and use effective practices that result in their students being academically prepared for higher education and for careers. Every year, the Outstanding Teacher of America Awards and the Educational Symposium are held in Marin County, California where these teachers are recognized for their exceptional and consistent success in educating their students, preparing them for higher education, and guiding them on pathways to personal and academic success.
