The initiative focuses on artworks located in schools and other public spaces, responding to the urgency of the problem caused by the absence of an updated, publicly accessible national art inventory and the closure of numerous school facilities. In the first phase of the Program, art and science experts, teachers, students, and museum professionals collaborated to design a curriculum based on project-based learning and STEAM education. In parallel, the AMPR continues its efforts to strengthen public policy that ensures the preservation of Puerto Rico's cultural heritage, while also pursuing funding opportunities for the restoration of artworks that require conservation treatment. Through the visual, historical, and scientific documentation of artworks found in schools, the Program supports the Institute of Puerto Rican Culture in updating the national inventory of artworks located in public institutions. The Foundation recognizes that without such an inventory, Puerto Rico lacks awareness of its cultural assets, how to protect them, and the resources needed to secure their future conservation. Moreover, without public access to this information and understanding of its importance, citizens cannot effectively oversee compliance with public policies that safeguard these assets, promote their responsible educational and economic use, or encourage philanthropy and investment toward their preservation. The Program also aims to foster interest, commitment, and knowledge among educational, cultural, and nonprofit institutions-and, most importantly, to strengthen public appreciation for the value of preserving Puerto Rico's cultural heritage. Through this initiative, the AMPR seeks to raise awareness not only within the school communities directly involved in the project but also among the general public. The visibility granted to the artworks studied and to the project as an educational resource of great value will also facilitate the AMPR's efforts to secure financial support for the long-term sustainability of the program and the restoration of artworks in need of conservation. The Program's accomplishments include (1) the production, editing, and publication of three educational videos highlighting Afro-descendant artists, aimed at strengthening the project's pedagogical resources and promoting the visibility of their contributions to Puerto Rican art; (2) the conceptual review and written revision of educational modules on Puerto Rican art and artists, as well as on cultural heritage concepts, ensuring the accuracy, coherence, and relevance of the content; and (3) the programming, maintenance, and continuous updating of the Program's website, ensuring optimal functionality, integration of new materials, and public access to the developed resources.
