$1.1MAnimal advocacy campaigns (other than wildlife) - we improve public policies and practices related to the treatment of animals through legislative and non-legislative means. Activities include: helping the state of new mexico defend laws passed to protect animals (affordable spay/neuter funding law passed in 2020, and roxy's law passed in 2021), ensuring effective state agency implementation of laws passed to protect animals, providing law enforcement officers with scholarships for professional training in effective enforcement, organizing and providing law enforcement training conferences, tracking and evaluating prosecution of animal cruelty cases, providing comprehensive support for the state's animal shelters through consultation, direct assistance, securing state funding, and identifying resources and fundraising opportunities, encouraging communities to restrict or eliminate dog chaining both for humane reasons and to keep communities safer, maintaining a resource database to help ensure resource capacity for keeping animals safe in natural and human-caused disasters, provided companion animal feed assistance through a grant-making program, worked with national allies to secure permanent sanctuary for government-owned chimpanzees living in new mexico by pressing the national institutes of health to abide by federal law (the chimp act requires sanctuary for all former research chimpanzees). Worked to ensure new mexico maintains and expands its equine safety net services, working to ensure all horses (in racing and other competition, domestic ownership for riding, and free roaming horses) are treated humanely at all stages of their lives, working to prevent homeless horses from being sold to other countries to be slaughtered. Worked with state legislators to pass a state law that closes a horse slaughter loophole in the meat inspection act, secured 360,000 in state funding for animals affected by domestic violence, and secured 100,000 for an animal services needs assessment in north-central new mexico.

$215KDirect animal services provides direct assistance to individual animals, such as veterinary care, contraception, boarding, feed, and transportation support to improve live outcomes for homeless animals.

$37KWildlife campaigns - worked to promote change in wildlife policies through a variety of tools including legislation to expand nm game & fish's scope, research and investigations including public records inquiries, coexistence education, coalition-building, implementing humane strategies by establishing partnerships with agencies and organizing interested members of the public to express opinions to governing agencies, species receiving specific focus include mountain lions, coyotes, bears, beavers, and wolves. Monitored and worked to ensure the enforcement of the 2021 law (roxy's law) that bans traps, poisons, and snares on new mexico's public lands.
