Thought leadership:with the involvement of experts and stakeholders, a series of meetings and consultations were convened to develop and raise awareness about methods to increase knowledge/understanding, change attitudes, build skills/capacity, and strengthen policy. This activity aims to change behavior and thinking with respect to the challenges facing lgbtq people globally, as well as to improve conservation and respect for apes in the wild and in captivity. As part of the foundation's thought leadership activities, it published the book series state of the apes, designed to drive thought leadership for the conservation of apes.

Think group & strategy:experts were brought in to discuss, build knowledge and expertise, and define strategic approaches for partners and arcus staff on institutional and individual capacity building approaches, and in the great ape and gibbon program, define the risk of disease and zoonoses, the threats of illegal trade and hunting, and how to effectively monitor and evaluate impact and strengthen attitudes and respect for apes, both in the wild and in captivity.

Capacity strengthening and technical assistance:the arcus capacity strengthening and technical assistance is being conducted in an effort to provide safety and security services for a select number of grantees to provide capacity support and learn more about organizational needs.
