Program 1
$1.3MAPEN was a member of key coalitions advocating for resiliency projects to be included in the $10 billion climate bond which California voters approved in November 2024. This work was part of APEN's limited lobbying activities conducted in accordance with IRS rules governing 501(c)(3) organizations. APEN also participated in educational statewide efforts to raise awareness about the negative health impacts of living near toxic sites for working Californians. Through a nonpartisan civic engagement program, APEN contacted over 5,000 Californians throughout the state in multiple languages, by phone or in their neighborhoods, to share information about these issues.
Program 2
$970KAPEN provided key leadership and support to local, state, and national alliances including: Asian American Pacific Islanders for Civic Empowerment, California Environmental Justice Alliance, California Green New Deal Coalition, Grassroots Asians Rising, and Oakland Rising.
Program 3
$587KAYPAL is a leadership development, community organizing, and coalition-building organization that seeks to create healthy, safe, and thriving communities. In 2024, AYPAL provided leadership development, community engagement activities, and arts opportunities for youth, including peer- led cultural and political education, civic engagement activities, and in-person community art events in collaboration with local artists of color. AYPAL's winter visual arts exhibit, FOB: Fresh Off the Block, showcased the voice and narrative of API youth in Oakland through photography and spoken word poetry. In the spring, during API Heritage Month, the AYPAL May Arts Festival brought the community together through traditional cultural dances and a resource fair for the Chinatown community.
