ASSISTANCE LEAGUE OF GLENDALE

Senior neighborhood fellowship assistance league of glendale provided a monthly social gathering complete with lunch and entertainment for men and women 55 years and older. Over 500 seniors were served at the luncheons this year. Assisteens provided 80 favors/month for attendees.

Welcome home! The assistance league of glendale provided essential household items to 60 families as they transitioned out of ascencia, a glendale homeless shelter, into their own home. These participants found a job, secured housing, and paid the first months rent on their own apartment. We provided a cellophaned-wrapped laundry basket full of basic home supplies and canned goods and included a card from the assistance league welcoming them to their new home.

Scholarships assistance league glendale awarded eight $2,500 scholarships to high school seniors or continuing college students. The scholarships are based on community service, school leadership and grade-point average. Recipients are publicized through our website and local newspapers and were honored at a june award luncheon.

Vocational training program assistance league glendales thrift store provides the venue three mornings/week for vocational training for 3-10 young adults with physical and mental disabilities under the tutelage of the staff of the tierra del sol foundation. The students develop confidence as they learn various skills needed to work in a retail store, including how to move merchandise, sort and hang clothing, arrange clothing on racks, move stock to display shelves, and purge old merchandise from the racks. Students also have the opportunity to increase their social skills and self-esteem while interacting with volunteers from the assistance league in a congenial and safe environment

Alg cares this program began in 2023 and provides basic personal and hygiene items to the homeless entering a homeless shelter. 150 duffle bags filled with supplies were delivered

Adopt a family -through the adopt a family program the assisteens auxiliary of assistance league glendale pr0vided 12 low income families in the glendale unified school district with holiday gifts and gift cards so they could choose what they needed to have a better holiday from food to clothes or gifts

Ascencia shelter for the homeless - members of las caritas and assisteens, auxiliaries of assistance league of glendale, provided dinners and weekend breakfasts for about 1,350 residents/year at the homeless shelter in glendale. It is a guest-chef program that allows groups to prepare food brought to the shelter and serve it to the changing population of 40 to 50 residents. Assistance league glendale also provided appropriate clothing for job interviews when residents were transitioning out of the shelter. Gifts were given to the children in the shelter during the holiday season.

Community outreach each year the assisteens program extends assistance to the community where a bit of help is needed. This year, assisteens volunteered at the burbank community dental clinics easter and holiday parties. They provided 30 children and their families with baskets, crafts, and refreshments. Assisteens also visted a local senior residence facililty each month and played bingo with 10-12 seniors

Gusd healthy start food bank las caritas auxiliary of assistance league glendale provided up to $350 in monthly food donations delivered to the gusd healthy start food bank for 300 needy families who selected items they needed for their households.
