$15KPrograms for senior citizens and the homebound: through our senior fellowship and meal program, last year we delivered 1,900 hot meals at no charge to senior citizens, the disabled and homebound individuals. An additional 1,045 senior citizens joined us for fellowship, games and bingo in the family life center, where they are able to dine with us for a nominal fee. We also hold quarterly programs including presentations about how to avoid scams, learning how to navigate medicare, and preparing for end of life decisions. Crafting activities have included painting cloth tote bags, making sun catchers or votive candles, building a charcuterie platter or making holiday decorations.
Program 2
$64KThe corner shoppe -our thrift store accepts donations of clothing, shoes, home decor, furniture and appliances. We curate these donations and sell them at affordable prices to the community. For families who have experienced a disaster, we provide them with five pieces or furniture or appliances, based on availability. However, not everything can be sold. We also share these donations with the community.to peacemakers sewing group, we donate fabric for baby and comfort quilts. We give suitcases and clothing to bluebonnet haven, and children's halloween costumes to camp for all. Area animal rescue groups are given stained towels and sheets to be used as bedding.students who participate in speech class at blinn college are provided jackets as they develop their professional skills. We give away coats during the winter, as well as business clothing that is suitable for a job interview or a funeral.mothers who take classes at the brenham pregnancy center are given "mommy bucks" that can be spent at our thrift store, helping these young families acquire maternity wear, baby clothing and household goods.the burton i.s.d. Nurse is provided with what she needs to ensure that children's needs are met: athletic shoes, undergarments for the incontinent, and replacement pants in case of an accident. Teachers receive school and art supplies for their classrooms.children who attend our burton storytime also benefit from your donations. Each child is offered their choice of a book to take home after sharing breakfast, uplifting stories, and prayers. Craft projects are offered based on availability of donations.some donations also are regifted to higgins branch in brenham, thereby helping our neighboring nonprofit faith mission.
Program 3
$25KChildren's ministry last year we distributed 562 backpacks to children who were identified by the burton independent school district as being food insecure. Each backpack contained child-friendly foods that were easy to open and consume, ensuring that children could access nutrition even when other support systems had failed. We also hosted burton storytime at local businesses, reading to preschool age children, giving them a book to take home, and sharing craft activities and nutritious snacks.helping hands our all-volunteer crew helps with minor home repairs, as well as the installation of accessibility ramps for senior citizens, the disabled, and low income families. We provide free space heaters in the winter and free box fans in the summer. We also connect homeowners with partner agencies that can help with weatherization, additional home repairs, or assistance with utility bills, mortgages and rent. Community fellowship events provide an opportunity to gather together, make new friends, and cherish existing relationships. Annual events include a free thanksgiving dinner for the whole community, volunteer appreciation, and toys for tots (at christmas-time).
