Program 1
$255KPCORI VTE- The primary objective of the project is to help nurses and patients make informed decisions regarding VTE prevention and reduce the occurrence of blood clots in injured patients by 1) implementing a validated nurse education module, and patient-centered education tool at 9 trauma centers, 2) examining data on missed and refused doses of VTE prophylaxis and study the intervention's impact on VTE outcomes in trauma patients at high-risk for VTE events, 3) conducting a qualitative study to tailor the intervention to the different health care settings and computer systems so that it can be implemented nationally, and 4) conducting a Cost of Implementation analysis with input from all nine sites to inform the business case for adopting the intervention at trauma centers across the US by quantifying the implementation costs including staffing efforts (nurse training, bedside patient education interventions) and electronic health record (EHR) configuration in two major platforms (Epic and Cerner). Following training of more than 1,000 nurses and nurse peer coaching, a real-time missed dose alert was put into place at all sites, and the patient education program was activated. Nine sites collected trauma registry and missed dose data for trauma admissions from January 1, 2019-December 31, 2023. A CNTR webpage was continuously utilized as a repository for all study educational materials. Manuscripts were produced and submitted for publication.
Program 2
$414KPROPOLIS - The PROPOLIS (Plasma Resuscitation without Lung Injury) study examines the use of INTERCEPT-treated pathogen-reduced plasma (IPRP) in the resuscitation of burned patients. IPRP is an FDA-approved blood component that has undergone treatment to reduce the risk of transfusion-transmitted infection. This is a three-year study, funded by the Defense Medical Research and Development Program. As the coordinating center for the multi-institutional study, CNTR is responsible for end-to-end study management across five clinical sites and two laboratories, involving all policy and procedure, training, and human subject protection activities. Following a protocol amendment to extend the enrollment window to 18 hours, CNTR activated study close-out due to low patient enrollment.
Program 3
$103KThe Clinical Assessment of Field Shield Wound Dressing of Large Surface Area Burn Wounds study is clinically evaluating the efficacy of Field Shield Wound Dressing (FSWD) as a treatment for burn wounds versus a standard of care silver dressing. This is a three-year study, funded by the Joint Warfighter Medical Research Program. As the coordinating center for the multi-institutional study, CNTR is responsible for end-toend study management across two clinical sites and one data site, involving all plicy and procedure, training, and human subject protection activities. The study is actively enrolling.
