Essentials4Homeless/ShelteredThis program provides critical support to individuals residing in shelters across San Diego County, primarily through the distribution of personal care items, clothing, and food, aiming to restore dignity and meet basic human needs. Major partners included La Posada Catholic Charities Shelter (La Posada CCSD), Rachels Day/Night/Promise Catholic Charities Shelters (Rachels CCSD), and Casa Raphael Alpha Project (Alpha Project).FFCOF continued its significant backpack initiatives for men's and women's shelters in 2024. Purchases included 200 backpacks for the men's shelter project and 115 backpacks for the women's shelter project. Contents for men's backpacks included various men's sweatshirts, underwear, and towels. Personal care items for men included toothpaste, deodorant, and floss, soap, razors and combs, sleep masks, and nail clippers. Men's t-shirts were also supplied. Other Projects:Student SupportThis program directly supports students by providing essential school-related items, including uniforms, a wide range of school supplies, and personal care items for backpacks, aiming to remove barriers to education and promote academic success. e3 Civic High School was a primary beneficiary, with support also extended to Cristo Rey and other schools.FFCOF made numerous purchases of school uniforms for students, totaling over $1,000 across various dates in October and November 2024. A significant effort in August 2024 involved purchasing a large quantity of backpacks and school supplies for the back-to-school season. A comprehensive range of school supplies was acquired, including general "School supplies backpack project" items (totaling over $1,200 across multiple Staples purchases), "Manila folders", "Youth coloring book", "Pencil pouch", "Geometry kits, highlighters, dry erase pens", and "Green pens". Community/EngageThis program fosters community engagement through direct food distribution, volunteer activities, and support for partner organizations' community-focused initiatives, aiming to alleviate food insecurity and build stronger community ties. Primary partners included Jacobs & Cushman Food Bank, e3 Civic High School, and Island Village low-income apartment complex. FFCOF continued its consistent monthly food pantry, purchasing food from Jacobs & Cushman Food Bank for distribution to low-income families at e3 Civic High School and individuals at Island Village. Food purchases from Jacobs & Cushman Food Bank totaled over $1,700 across various dates in 2024. The long-standing nature and regular cadence of this program indicate a deep, established commitment to addressing food insecurity as a chronic issue.
