$101KSpectacles for ScholarsAravinds 117 Rural Vision Centers cover a population of approximately 12 million and can provide 90% of basic vision care, from vision screening and spectacles to surgical follow-up. All patients are first seen by highly trained technicians, followed by a telemedicine visit with an ophthalmologist, who reviews results and prescribes treatment.Twenty-one centers have been funded by the Aravind Eye Foundation since 2011; this past year nearly 200,000 patients visited and more than 25,000 received eye glasses from these centers.The most common vision problem in the world can be solved with the simplest solution a pair of eyeglasses. Aravinds Spectacle for Scholars program screened 304,032 students and 13,280 received free spectacles.

$96KSchool Screen at VCThe foundation continues to support work to integrate school screening into vision centers. This program seeks to reach students who might be missed by traditional school screenings and to raise awareness about the importance of eyecare within the whole community. This past year, the programs in Madurai and Tirunelveli screened 76,673 students from 362 schools and referred 7,081 children for follow-up at their local vision center.

$47KRing of HopeEye cancer requires expensive, complex and lengthy care, involving family counseling, radiology and imaging, surgery, chemotherapy, rehabilitative care, and genetic testing. Through the Ring of Hope, full treatment to children and adults with eye cancers is provided completely free of cost. This year treatment for 69 new patients and 1980 follow-up visits were delivered.Corneal Ulcers are a common affliction among farmers and day laborers, who are most at risk and may struggle to pay for the medicines and travel costs essential for follow-up care. To date the foundation has supported 1521 patients.
