MEMBERSHIP AND PUBLIC IMPERATIVES: IEEE is a public charity with a global presence, but its impact begins at the local level driven by dedicated members and volunteers committed to improving lives and communities worldwide. IEEE serves as the home where like-minded and passionate individuals join together and help push technology to new frontiers. With 347 sections and more than 2,800 chapters worldwide, IEEE facilitates the active participation of thousands of members and volunteers, who help contribute to the IEEE mission. In 2024, IEEE had a total of 486,616 members, from more than 190 countries worldwide, including 187,717 student members and 434,375 society members from the 39 technical societies. In 2024 IEEE members and volunteers collaborated with leading organizations and continued delivering on technological advancements and solutions to address the world's most pressing challenges to shape a better future. EDUCATIONAL EFFORTS: IEEE continues to lead in the area of engineering and technology education, offering comprehensive resources across all stages of learning: pre-university, university, and continuing professional education. Through innovative STEM initiatives, pre-university outreach, and recognition programs for engineering professionals and faculty, IEEE fosters a culture of lifelong learning and inspire the next generation of engineers. A) The IEEE TryEngineering program empowers educators to foster the next generation of technology innovators through a robust library of over 130 lesson plans. The TryEningeering Summer Institute offered nine-day hands-on engineering experiences for 330 high school students at three U.S. college campuses: University of Pennsylvania, Rice University, and University of San Diego. B) IEEE-Eta Kappa Nu (HKN) encourages and recognizes excellence in education and contributions to society through leadership in the IEEE technical fields of interest worldwide, hosting 748 engineering workshops and contributing 104,000 volunteer hours to support universities and local communities in 2024. C) The 2024 IEEE International Science and Engineering Fair awarded three IEEE Presidents' Scholarships each worth $10,000 for their outstanding innovative and sustainable technological projects: autonomous unmanned aerial vehicle system for ocean rescue, a soil carbon tracking device, and a mobile app that help ALS patients type sentences with only their eyes. D) IEEEXtreme 18.0 Programming Competition, a global 24-hour programming challenge, attracted over 19,900 students competing to solve real-world programming problems. The competition continues to be popular with the next generation of technologist with more than 8,500 teams across 75 countries participating. TECH ETHICS: IEEE continues to be very active in the intersection between technology and ethics. The IEEE TechEthics website (https://techethics.ieee.org/) provides access to technology ethics resources and information from across IEEE including education modules, articles, session recordings and ethics frameworks. HUMANITARIAN EFFORTS WORLDWIDE: IEEE Humanitarian Technologies is IEEE's Tech for Social Impact Hub for all humanitarian-related activities across IEEE, supported by a global network of volunteers and technical professionals. A) IEEE Empower a Billion Lives Competition brought together 575 teams across 75 countries to develop technological and sustainable innovations aimed at improving the lives of people in underdeveloped communities that make less than $2.15 per day. B) The IEEE Access & Abilities Competition provided financial support to a student team in developing a technological device that helped more than 150 children with hearing aids and cochlear implants learn Tamil in India. C) The IEEE REACH expanded free online, educational resources for pre-university educators to Africa, raising students' awareness of and interest in STEM in underdeveloped countries. D) Through the IEEE SA Foundational Technologies Practice, 200 villages in Kerala and Karnataka have been connected to the internet including digitizing classrooms through Wi-Fi access. The program provides Wi-Fi training and translating the Wi-Fi training content into five local Indian languages delivered through the IEEE Blended Learning Program. IEEE's Mobile Outreach Vehicle (MOVE) continues its mission to assist victims of natural disasters where volunteers provided critical communications infrastructure and support to federal resource centers and American Red Cross responders working in impacted communities. In 2024 IEEE MOVE USA assisted in emergency responses across Florida, New Mexico, North Carolina, and Texas. IEEE TECHNOLOGY FOR A SUSTAINABLE CLIMATE: IEEE is committed to fostering technology for a sustainable climate by optimizing resource efficiency through pragmatic and accessible technical solutions, and by providing engineers and technologists with a neutral space for discussion and action. A) IEEE Technology for a Sustainable Climate fosters collaboration and knowledge sharing with leading institutions to explore and implement technology to support a sustainable climate. B) IEEE's Technology for a Sustainable Climate website (https://sustainable-climate.ieee.org/) makes IEEE resources on climate technology broadly accessible, allowing members and non-members to collaborate, participate, and engage with the IEEE community. C) IEEE Future Directions SusTech Initiative hosted a workshop driving for low-carbon building materials and sustainable architecture. This event was part of the broader effort led by the IEEE Technology Center for Climate to accelerate sustainable innovations and promote environmentally responsible engineering practices.

Standards: IEEE's standards development process brings together experts from around the world to help drive the functionality, capabilities, and interoperability of a wide range of products and services that transform the way people live, work, and communicate. In 2024 the IEEE Standards Association approved 186 new standards for publication to help ensure scientific integrity for the public. In 2024, IEEE Standards Association earned accreditation from the Standards Council of Canada, initiating a collaboration to deliver global standards in Canada. IEEE continued to grow its collection of standards geared towards sustainability, climate technology, and overall social responsibility solutions: IEEE Standards and Sustainability Hub: The IEEE Standards Association has a growing portfolio of standards and related programs where experts from around the world contribute their insights and expertise to help develop solutions for critical sustainability issues the planet faces today. In 2024, standards published in this area included: A. 1680 2-2024 IEEE Standard for Environmental Assessment of Imaging Equipment B. 1680 3-2024 IEEE Standard for Environmental Assessment of Televisions C. 2783-2023 IEEE Guide for the Application of Quick Response Systems of Customer-Side Loads in Modern Power Grids D. 3821-2024 IEEE Standard for Framework of Digital Intelligent Comprehensive Energy Service Station Management Systems IEEE makes selected Standards available free of charge through the IEEE Global Engineering Technology (GET) Program, which aims to expand the global reach of technical knowledge developed by industry, accelerate adoption of IEEE standards, contribute to an open knowledge community, promulgate open information exchange to foster innovation, and connect IEEE with the development of world-changing technologies for the benefit of humanity. Key areas of focus include wireless technology, AI ethics and governance, design automation, and environmental assessment.
