KENTUCKY FOUNDATION FOR WOMEN INC

The 2024 radical, timely, and urgent grant is a two-year grant: this grant asks artists and organizers to consider what feminist issues feel radical, timely, and urgent in their communities. What do we mean by radical? Think of art that "involves risk-taking. "incorporates or encourages a shift in power dynamics. "challenges expectations. "influences new directions. "elicits a response or call to action. This grant asks artists and organizers to consider what feminist issues feel radical, timely, and urgent in their communities. We want to see compelling art projects that speak to the times we live in, challenge the status quo, highlight a pressing need, and connect to a broader community dialogue, especially in light of recent anti- affirmative action, anti-trans/lgbtqia+ legislation, challenges to democracy, bodily autonomy and other pressing issues.

The firestarter award honors a young feminist social change artist for their outstanding ability to inspire others to make a difference named for kfw's founder, the sallie bingham award recognizes kentucky women who are leaders in changing the lives of women and girls across the state by supporting feminist expression in the arts. The award was founded in 1996 by former kfw director, ann stewart anderson. Honorees are recognized at the annual kfw day celebration.

The mission of the kentucky foundation for women is to promote positive social change by supporting varied feminist expression in the arts. For sponsorship requests, kfw supports events that have a feminist focus, address inequality for women and girls, and engage participants in creativity/culture/arts. Kfw does not sponsor individual show or artist fees. Sponsorships cannot be awarded for past events. Sponsorship funds can only be used for events that are separate from events proposed in a submitted grant application (whether funded or not). A typical sponsorship is from 250 to 1,000. You may apply for one sponsorship in a july to june fiscal year. Sponsorships are awarded only to kentucky residents. After the event, applicants must complete a final report with follow-up information on the impact of the event for our kfw records.
