LONGWOOD GARDENS INC

In october 2018, longwood cemetery llc was formed to assume ownership and operations of the cemetery which adjoins longwood gardens. Longwood gardens is the sole member of longwood cemetery llc. Chartered in 1855, the longwood cemetery has long served as a place of peace and has helped tell the story of some of the brandywine valley's most revered, from war heroes to ardent abolitionists. The cemetery sits on land once granted by william penn, located directly in front of the 1854 historic longwood meeting house and at the entrance to longwood gardens. Longwood gardens is responsible for the operation, maintenance and up-keep of the cemetery.

Expanding upon its ongoing commitment to conservation and environmental preservation, longwood gardens acquired granogue in january 2024 to conserve one of the last remaining unprotected pieces of open space in the brandywine river corridor. Offering picturesque views of the surrounding brandywine valley, much of the property is actively farmed. Longwood at granogue has leased a portion of the property to a local farmer for corn, soy, hay, and beef production. Large sections of forest, pasture, and meadow are also being preserved. In addition to preservation and conservation of these 505 acres, longwood also carries on a decades-long tradition of hosting select special events for the community every year from cycling and hiking expeditions to children's nature camps.
