NEBRASKA ACADEMY OF SCIENCES

Nebraska association of teachers of science partnered with the nebraska association of teachers of mathematics for the annual fall conference. Teachers, members, and students attended the conference and registered for various sessions for elementary and secondary teachers in a number of disciplines including mathematics, earth science, chemistry, physics, biology, astronomy, ecology, etc. Sessions on teaching methods were available. Presidential awards, catalyst awards, science olympiad competitions and training meetings, and other leadership and planning conferences were also conducted or sponsored.

The nebraska academy of sciences was awarded a grant from the nebraska environmental trust to administer the trust's public information and education mini-grants (pie grants). The pie grants support the presentation and dissemination of information and perspectives that will stimulate enhanced environmental stewardship in any category eligible for trust funding. The grant program seeks to expand dialogue on important conservation topics and to provide information on emerging or highly useful conservation methods.

The nebraska junior academy of sciences (njas) sponsors regional science competitions across the state of nebraska. Winners are chosen in the junior high and senior high divisions. Senior division winners are eligible to attend the american junior academy of science (ajas) conference in the following year. Senior high winners from the njas state science competition attend ajas.
