Ohf maintains a technology platform, the home-assistant. Ohf develops this technology to offer to the public for free so that users can create and improve their own smart-homes using the home-assistant technology for their own individual purposes (i.e., not for commercial resale). Where a third-party user wishes to use the software for commercial purposes, the third-party user pays a licensing fee to ohf. The proceeds of these fees are used by ohf to fund the open-source project. This project is dedicated to developing publicly available smart-home technologies for free public use. Ohf's purpose is charitable: to provide the general public with smart-home technologies. Substantially all of the proceeds of licensing fees ohf receives goes to fund the further development of smart-home technology (payment of software developers, etc...), which is made available to the public for free.
