Programs & Activities
Program 1
This service has focused on alleviating the hardships faced by individuals persecuted for their religious or political beliefs and strengthening interfaith cooperation amid ongoing repression. During the quarter, the organization distributed over 20,297 pounds of aid, including food, hygiene supplies, and health products, benefiting more than 2,131 individuals-including prisoners, persecuted individuals, and their families. Distributions included containers of aid shipped to Cuba, local food purchases totaling over 2,102 bags, and emergency supplies for high-risk beneficiaries. Although the operational suspension limited activities temporarily, the organization resumed distributions promptly after the suspension was lifted, ensuring continuous support. Additionally, the organization promoted interfaith solidarity through the successful on-island forums and roundtables, fostering strategic partnerships and advocacy efforts. The recent multifaith alliance workshop in the Dominican Republic, attended by over 165 faith leaders, produced a joint memorandum of understanding to advocate collectively for religious rights. These efforts advance the organization's purpose of defending religious freedom, supporting victims, and promoting interfaith unity in a hostile environment.
Program 2
This program has maintained a robust evidence-based approach to documenting violations and raising international awareness of religious repression in Nicaragua. During the quarter, the organization's partners documented 69 new incidents of religious freedom violations, including harassment, surveillance, threats, and judicial intimidation, with particular focus on Catholic clergy and faith communities. They also recorded 49 cases involving exiled victims, including priests and lay faith leaders forced into exile. These case notes and testimonies strengthen advocacy efforts and are incorporated into the Nicaragua Country Report and regional human rights assessments, such as OLIRE's annual report. The organization actively engaged with international forums, including the IRF Summit, where it highlighted Nicaragua's crisis, and resumed publication of its Faith Under Fire newsletter to disseminate timely information. Additionally, collaborations with academic institutions like Pepperdine University have fostered research and advocacy initiatives positioning Nicaragua as a case study of religious repression. Support for legal aid and emergency assistance to exiles-helping faith leaders obtain legal status, housing, and medical care-further exemplifies the organization's commitment to its exempt purpose of protecting faith communities and advancing religious freedom.
