POPULATION BIOLOGY FOUNDATION

Canopy tree mapping in laliberte lab: this project is focused on developing technological tools to measure tree diversity in forests around the globe. The data is collected by off-the-shelf drones and the project develops machine learning tools to rapidly identitfy tree canopy tree crowns to measure forest diversity for basic research and conservation.

Pika research: research on the life history and population dynamics of pikas in the western us including tagging and tracking individuals, camera trapping, observational study.

Team waponi: population biology foundation supports biological research on species and habitats of conservation interest with a focus on species rich tropical communities and the development of new technological approaches to measuring species abundance in space and time. Our work has resulted in the discovery of over 50 new species, many of which have yet to be formally described, and provides critical information for conservation decision makers for organizations such as iucn red book, conservation international, ministerio de ambiente in ecuador, and ecominga foundation.
