During its fiscal year ended September 30, 2024, the Foundation engaged in direct charitable activities (1) to further develop and apply an evaluation and learning framework for its criminal justice grant making and (2) to conduct research regarding shifting the narrative of violence and harm reduction in Washington, D.C. The evaluation and learning framework work involved surveys of Foundation grantees and of those impacted by the work of those grantees, preparation of written reports on the results of the surveys, and dissemination of findings. These narrative efforts included polling of and conducting focus groups with residents of Washington, DC concerning messaging about violence and harm reduction and developing and testing messaging campaigns. The Foundation made direct expenditures of $548,000 for the evaluation and learning framework work and of $432,000 for the research and related work on the narrative of violence and harm reduction work.
