Programs & Activities

Program 1

We have provided a yearly grant to The Foundation for Amateur Radio Inc. a 501c3 public charity which provides the selection and distribution process at no cost. Since Foundation for Amateur Radio are no longer in business we provided our yearly grant to the Dayton Amateur Radio Association DARA a 501c3 public charity. Since 1978 we have paid for 624 individual scholarships totalling $930,350. Last year we paid for 15 Scholarships at $3,000 each.

Program 2

We provide a membership network including a web site and online a monthly journal in both written and audio versions for the blind which provides information of interest dealing with all facets of amateur radio and reports of the activity of our more than 69 local chapters. Since 1947 more than 39,340 have joined the QCWA and at present we have approximately 3,630 paid up active members who live throughout the United States Canada and Europe. New members are continually added to our rolls by solicitations at various ham radio events such as trade show conventions like HamCation in Orlando FL held in February and the Dayton OH Hamvention held in May of each year attended by more than 30,000 hams from throughout the world. We also advertise in monthly ham Radio Journals and our current active chapters continually recruit new members from their local communities during regular meetings and at Hamfests flea markets and tail gate parties.

Program 3

We provide college scholarships from our investment funds each year to qualified amateur radio operators and the Foundation for Amateur Radio Inc. FAR a 501c3 public charity provided the selection and distribution process for the scholarships. Since FAR went out of business in 2024 we paid the Scholarship Donations to DARA for distribution to our scholarship recipients. The Scholarship program started with a single $500 scholarship presented to John WA2MYU in 1978. As of 2024 we have awarded 624 scholarships totalling $930,350. As the QCWA is an IRS Section 501c3 charitable organization all donations made to the QCWA Scholarship Fund are federal income tax deductible and are acknowledged in writing. Contributions to the Fund are frequently made in memory of silent keys deceased former Amateur Radio Operators. Our Funds consist of securities held by Charles Schwab and managed by Coldstream Wealth Management Seattle WA.
