Wildfire leadership summit 2024 our work has always convened wildfire experts and megafire devastated communities. In 2024, we held our largest and most effective conference since 2018 in sonoma, california. We curated the attendee and speaker list to ensure the investment of time and resources was maximized. We are proud to lead in this space and to create the most robust and competent wildfire + megafire network in the nation. The summit is a critically important part of this work. Every speaker and attendee is chosen for their thoughtful and effecitve approach. We are rpoud to amplify and platform new leaders on the frontlines to those who have been working in this field for decades. Over 150 organizations attended via 200 people from across the nation. We centered our summit first on wildfire communities and survivors, then expanded into systems sharing, innovation in technologies, policy & procedure best practices, networking, and strengthening the entire field of wildfire disaster management. We embrace nonprofits, emergent leaders, public sector leaders, and private entities working together to solve megafire.we capture the event on video and make the content available without cost on our website + youtube. Of note, no attendee was asked to pay to attend and we sponsored the transportation and lodging costs of several nonprofit leaders + wildfire survivors.we are proud of our role as the leader in wildfire community recovery and convening across the nation.

Advocacy on behalf of fire survivorswe are mindful to stay well below the 20% threshold for nonprofit advocacy.we are the most effective megafire survivor advocates in the nation.we only advocate for policy changes that positively affect the majority of the people we serve and never endorse or engage in partisan political activities.in 2024, we were elated to complete a three-year goal of educating lawmakers on the need to pass a disaster tax relief bill (hr5863) to stop the federal government from requiring disaster survivors claim their settlement funds as personal income tax - and they were unable to deduct attorney's fees. This led to loss of healthcare and social benefits and delayed rebuilding by years. The bill passed into law shortly after this fiscal year ended (december of 2024).advocacy is an absolutely critical function of our work. We are proudly nonpartisan-not because we avoid hard conversations, but because disaster recovery requires everyone. Megafire does not ask who you voted for. Neither do we.we work with elected officials from both major parties, across federal, state, and local levels, because recovery isn't about sides-it's about solutions. Our advocacy in washington, d.c., and across the country has been bipartisan, consistent, and survivor-focused -most of all, it has been effective. We are at the table only to make recovery faster, fairer, and more trauma-informed.let us be very clear:we advocate exclusively on behalf of fire-impacted communities and disaster survivors. We do not accept paid lobbying contracts. We do not rent out our platform or our voice. We are not for sale we fiercely protect the dignity of those we serve. Our presence in any room is driven by one purpose: to bring resources, relief, and reform to communities devastated by megafire. Nothing more, nothing less.nonpartisan is pro-partnership-and our mission depends on that principle.
