The jail ministry also assists the formerly incarcerated with financial needs such as rent, car repairs, employment resources and addiction assessments. St dismas aftercare groups, the joyful souls (women) and hope upon release (men) provide extended emotional and spiritual support as well as a healthy dinner. Devotional readings, crafts and other activities provide participants a positive environment decreasing the chance for recidivism.the society of st vincent de paul of waukesha county systemic change ministry, getting ahead, offers a 16-week workshop for individuals who desire to make life changes and reach financial stability. Led by getting ahead facilitators, participants through self-examination and discussion are met with a positive atmosphere and an opportunity to build relationships/support systems. A healthy dinner is provided at each workshop. $25.00 gift cards are offered to participants as incentive for attendance of the workshops and to help offset gasoline/transportation and/or childcare costs. Participants graduate from the getting ahead program with the knowledge, tools, and attitude to succeed and are paired with a mentor for up to two years. An extended graduate program is offered to participants upon graduation.
