$2.4MIn addition to those patients without the wherewithal to pay for services rendered, we assist in the relief of burden of government for several programs. A strong auxiliary (operated as a department of the hospital) exists, which contributes heavily to the activities of smmc. During the fiscal year ended september 30, 2024, the auxiliary contributed approximately $450,000 to st. Mary's. In addition, volunteers provided over 16,000 hours of service valuable to promoting the mission and activities of the hospital.

St. Mary's medical center (smmc) participated in numerous community-building activities during fy 2024 that promoted wellness and helped enrich the lives of people in the tri-state.community flu shot clinicssmmc, in conjunction with the cabell-huntington health department, offered free drive-thru flu shot clinics saturday, oct. 12, 2024, in huntington and in hurricane. A total of 254 total vaccines were given at both locations.free women's health screeningsst. Mary's breast center offered two free women's health screenings to the community: a free breast screening and cervical cancer screening on 4.20.24, 42 participated. Skin screening on 5.17.24, 38 participated and a breast cancer screening on 10.25.23, 10 participated. Community wellness blood profilessmmc, in conjunction with cabell huntington hospital and himg, provided low-cost wellness blood profiles to the community during the months of october, november, february, april, june, august 2023-2024. Blood profiles included 29 different tests, such as glucose, cholesterol and calcium, with optional testing available at an additional cost for hemoglobin a1c, thyroid-stimulating hormone (tsh), vitamin d and prostate-specific antigen (psa). The profiles were available by appointment at the smmc conference center, himg and the smmc ironton campus. Smmc's facilities provided 2,554 profiles. Support groupssmmc offers free support groups and nutrition counseling to the community:" breast cancer, 11 support groups held, 127 participants." nutrition counseling, 14 events, 1,400 participantssmmc also offers navigating grief, a free quarterly four-week course, to help community members who are struggling with loss. Eighteen support groups were held, 417 participants. American red cross blood drivesto assist with the blood shortage, smmc hosted two community blood drives with 175 participants between the medical center and the center for education. American heart association eventshuntington heart walk: smmc regional heart institute partnered with the american heart association, the largest voluntary health organization working to prevent, treat and defeat heart disease, stroke and other cardiovascular diseases, for the 2024 huntington heart walk, april 20, 2024. The walk raised funds and awareness for the american heart association and had approximately 200 participants. Smmc staff members provided free blood pressure screenings to walkers.go red mini health fair: as part of national wear red day, this free event offered free blood pressure, blood sugar and cholesterol screenings, as well as information on sleep disorders, smoking cessation, stroke risk and nutrition to 175 attendees. Huntington's kitchenhuntington's kitchen is a community food center where people come to learn, cook and experience everything that well-prepared food and healthy living have to offer. Smmc partnered with huntington's kitchen throughout the year to provide speakers for two free monthly community events: dining with a doc, which offers an evening of health information and cooking with a physician, and senior focus friday, a program for people 50 and older. Topics included: mental health, diabetes management, the importance of a primary care provider and heart care. A total of 12 groups were held with 112 participants. Facing hunger foodbanksmmc partnered with facing hunger foodbank to distribute medically indicated food boxes to over 1,300 clinic patients throughout the year. Proact (provider response organization for addiction care and treatment)proact's goal is to offer individuals and their families a viable system that provides positive outcomes. Partner institutions within proact include smmc, cabell huntington hospital, marshall health and thomas health. The proact center, which opened in 2018, was created to address the clinical, behavioral, spiritual and professional issues of those affected by substance use. It functions as the centralized hub for treatment, recovery, therapy, education, research, workforce opportunities and support for those affected by addiction. Smmc provides a full-time chaplain. 2,459 patients supported by a smmc full-time chaplain. 6,914 clients assisted by proact.compass programthe compass program provides training, classes and a wellness center to help first responders in huntington improve their mental health. Smmc provides spiritual care and employment assistance program (eap) services as part of the program. Joslin diabetes centerthe joslin diabetes center education affiliate at smmc offers nutrition education and counseling, in partnership with the renowned joslin diabetes center in boston, massachusetts. Joslin worked with 769 people in 2024.smoking cessation counselingsmmc pulmonary rehabilitation offers one-on-one smoking cessation counseling by a certified tobacco treatment specialist. 1,344 people received counseling in 2024.cancer survivor receptionsfree events held at st. Mary's center for education for cancer survivors and their family members with 55 participants. Community givingwe support projects that promote healthy living, nutrition, physical activity, wellness, and the prevention and management of disease. Funded initiatives must align with priorities identified in the organization's community health needs assessment (chna).volunteer service on community boardssmmc managers volunteered their time to their communities through service on many non-profit boards including huntington regional chamber of commerce, united way of the river cities, big brothers/big sisters, facing hunger foodbank, goodwill, hospice of huntington and the keith-albee performing arts center to name a few.
