The minority aids initiative (mia) program was initiated by president clinton to address the disparities in hiv/aids rates and deaths between minority groups (particularly blacks and hispanics). The florida mai program utilizes strengths-based case management, which focuses on an individual's strengths to accomplish goals. The main goal of mai is to indentify newly or previously diagnosed hiv-positive persons and link them to medical care. From october 2012 until today, the mai program has served 275 clients, 74% of the population was african american, 24% was hispanic and 2% was other races.
