The Center for Black Health and Equity

HIV Awareness & Dissemination-In 2024, The Center for Black Health & Equity advanced HIV prevention and awareness through culturally resonant outreach. They hosted 20+ events and shared 8,000 CDC materials, including the "I Live" Ballroom initiative to engage communities. Partnerships with HBCUs led to impactful art exhibitions amplifying Black women's sexual health narratives. Their presence at the Bayou Classic deepened public connection to health equity messages. The HIV Program Manager received national recognition for his contributions to public health and advocacy.

Food & Nutrition-In 2024, the Center for Black Health & Equity's Food & Nutrition Program led four major projects tackling food insecurity and nutrition policy. Their Cleveland-based "Cut the Salt, Keep the Flavor" campaign drove grassroots advocacy for sodium warning labels. Statewide, they co-led North Carolina's School Meals for All NC campaign, hosting town halls and launching a Champions Program that mobilized support in all 100 counties. Nationally, they joined coalitions pushing for universal school meals and backed the TRUTH in Labeling Act. Through community-driven advocacy and legislative engagement, the program advanced health equity at every level.

Equity Centered Policies-In 2024, the Center for Black Health & Equity highlighted transportation-related health disparities at APHA and previewed an upcoming commentary on systemic injustice. They expanded the Truth Be Told initiative with storytelling workshops in Detroit and New Orleans, empowering community advocacy. Policy briefs on behavioral health in schools and tobacco's impact in Black communities were developed with the Public Health Law Center. A free 5-part toolkit was launched to support grassroots equity efforts and advocacy skill-building. Evaluation showed increased confidence and engagement among community leaders, with participants applying lessons to local programs.
