Supportstem program supportstem grant awards are offered in louisiana to college/universities, nonprofit agencies, or k-12 schools and are exclusively for k-12 stem curriculum implementation or stem instruction support for k-12 schools in louisiana and mississippi. For school year 2023-2024 grants were awarded to 2 universities, 14 agencies, and 9 k-12 schools in louisiana. All budgetary items must directly impact stem education in k-12 schools and the support must be for stem only, we do not steam or stream initiatives. Budgetary examples include but are not limited to: paid professional development, curriculum models, stem kits, stem conferences, transportation, consumable materials, equipment, and on-going stem programs that enrich curriculum. NEUROSCIENCE PROGRAMNeuroscience research programs in general study the brain and nervous system to understand how they work, how they develop, and how diseases affect them. The Joe W. & Dorothy Dorsett Brown Foundation Neuroscience Research Program explores the biological foundations of the brain, progressing from the cellular foundations of the neuron to an understanding of the sensory systems, and culminating with higher-order cognitive functions such as memory, emotion, and morality. University participants in the 2023 program included Duke University, which will be hosting a neuroscience and consciousness symposium on Dukes campus in affiliation with the Brown Foundation in 2025 as part of this 2023 program.

AGRICULTURE PROGRAMThe Joe W. & Dorothy Dorsett Brown Foundation recognize that agriculture science refers to the processes of cultivating desirable plants and breeding and raising livestock for human consumption purposes. The Foundation further recognizes that advances in technology and farming practices have helped farmers become much more productive, growing nutritious crops efficiently in areas most suitable for agricultural production. Without these advances, far more land would need to be cultivated to produce the food we need today. Higher crop productivity results in decreased use of water, fertilizer, and pesticides, which in turn keeps food prices down and combats inflation. Agricultural science further leads directly to reduced impact on natural ecosystems and less runoff of chemicals into rivers and groundwater which alleviates human suffering.
