Community engagement: continuing and deepening relationships with local organizations; oakland asian cultural center, the black banjo reclamation project, mbira the non-profit, ashkenaz music and dance community center, the kaululehua hawaiian cultural center, as well as hawai'i-based organizations such as the hula preservation society, hawai'i state foundation of culture and the arts and the popolo project; facilitated a discussion between former students of kumu joseph kaha'ulelio and the hula preservation society; served on the national dance project panel as an advisor.

Performance: appeared in performances for children for rhythmix cultural works; performed in yerba buena gardens seed festival; produced two sold- out performances of hula ki'i at the tenney theatre in honolulu, hawai'i; performed at a fundraiser for maui at the venue of na mamo noeau; participated in ku mai ka hula, an invitational hula competition on the island of maui and debuted an original song from the african american hawaiian history project popoloheno, achieving 1st place honors; presented performance of hula ki'i to eden united church of christ; performed at berkeley main public library

$93KSponsorship we proudly serve as fiscal sponsors for a hewlett foundation grant for the kaululehua hawaiian cultural center in support of a performing arts fellowship called "mahuahua: flourishing generational artistry." this initiative will bring together artists, students, and audiences of all backgrounds to deepen relationships between selected performing artists and their craft, with a focus on the traditional homelands from which their arts come and the homelands and native peoples in whose territory they reside. This is being achieved through community outreach, a master/apprentice program and a series of public lecture/demonstrations. The culmination of this initiative will be a "hoike" (performance) showcasing these traditional arts.
