Maui aloha program: hawaii people's fund's maui aloha urgent action (mau) grants support grassroots, social justice organizations facing or responding to unforeseen and urgent threats on the island of maui that are a direct result of the august 2023 wildfires. This fund is intended to assist organizations in achieving timely and specific outcomes and/or impact in the ongoing response and recovery efforts. Grant awards will be made in 5,000-15,000 increments, although hpf has, at its discretion, made larger grants per increment based on assessed community need. Priority for grant funding will be made to current/past hpf community and grantee partners led by and empowering directly impacted people in affected areas (already hpf-vetted with long term goal to achieve systems-based change).

Program 2

$229K

Giving project: giving projects are created for individuals and families that want to strengthen their relationships, skills, understanding, leadership, and purpose to support meaningful community building that is genuinely in service to our stories, places, and people. Centering the incredible work our grassroots changemakers are doing in community, the giving project is a cross-class, multiracial hui of 15-20 people that commit to gathering in sessions over the course of 6 months (2 sessions per month). Through these collaborative sessions, the hui co-develops a shared understanding of how injustice, racism, classism, and power plays out in hawai`i. Each hui member commits to moving money to grassroots organizations through community-sourced grants and relationship building. The hpf giving project facilitators provide meaningful tools, experiences, and resources, supporting participants along the way, and have the opportunity to build relationships with grantees, make collective decisions, and provide community-raised resources to inspiring social change and environmental movement builders in hawai`i.

Program 3

$188K

Since 1972, hawai`i people's fund (hpf) has given us all an opportunity to be a part of something bigger than ourselves, bringing together those who want to confidently invest in social change and those actively working towards it in a united vision of social justice in hawai`i. Hpf is the only organization in the world specifically addressing the needs of grassroots progressive movement builders in hawai`i. Hpf's philosophy of community- based strategic philanthropy offers a unique alternative to traditional charitable giving, ensuring support to initiatives that directly address the root causes of social issues and pose new solutions. Hpf's "community giving = community doing" philosophy ensures community engagement at all levels between donors, grantees, and the larger community. Hpf provides grants, technical assistance, and unique networking opportunities to grassroots organizations focused on creating sustainable social change in hawai`i.
