2020 Mom Policy Center For Maternal

Mom congress - this year, mom congress, a project of the policy center, became an independent non-profit organization. The policy center created the project in 2019, in collaboration with other regional and national non-profits, to bring mothers and advocates to capitol hill to share their stories to advance maternal mental health, early parenting support, paid leave, and child care. Leading up to the spin-off, mom congress experienced a year of continued growth and expansion, developing new partnerships with organizations aligned to its mission and vision. Mom congress was successful in developing the 2024 moms' agenda, growing and training members in policy and advocacy, and supporting new nonprofit partners. In may, the mom congress convention brought together mothers, partner organizations, and other stakeholders in dc to advocate for legislation to improve motherhood. Nearly 50 advocates gathered together on may 15, representing 25 states. The event included mom congress's annual "saving and supporting moms" congressional briefing and congressional reception.

The "critical content" focus area supports informing our four key audiences with general knowledge about maternal mental health through issue briefs, reports, and sharing of resources. During the past fiscal year, the policy center continued to be active in producing "critical content" to catalyze the field. This content was covered by major media outlets such as nbc news, time, npr, the hill, cbs sunday morning, and good morning america. This year we developed data-driven actionable insights through nearly 60 articles, reports, fact sheets, and issue briefs, including new materials such as: the black maternal mental health issue brief, a fact sheet addressing various lay professionals that can support maternal mental health (such as doulas, peers and community health workers), and an obstetric provider services billing and reimbursement guide. We also re-released issue brief: maternal suicide in the u.s. During suicide prevention month. We hosted three webinars and two congressional briefings, the first on the topic of the 2024 mmh state report cards and the second on maternal suicide. These events serve to educate key players and drive action on pressing maternal mental health issues, also including a two-part summer webinar series on maternal mental health workforce development and a webinar hosted alongside the federal department of labor's employee benefit security administration. Over 1500 attendees participated in these webinars and briefings. Lastly, we held our 14th annual forum march 19-20th and attracted 700+ cross-sector participants from across the u.s. It was our fourth all-virtual event. In addition to featuring mothers' stories, the event again drew compelling speakers from organizations such as the white house, kff news, the american college of obstetricians and gynecologists, pennsylvania medicaid, the purchaser business group on health, and various non-profit and philanthropic partners. The event again consisted of 3 days of programming, including two networking sessions. Ninety-five percent of attendees reported the forum provided insight on evidence-based policy and practice solutions in maternal mental health care.

All other related programs are comprised of our four key functions, which we refer to as our 4 cs. These include communities of practice, co-laboratory, and craveable content. The 4th c, commanding action, is referenced above.
