Mission

Mission: act is a contemporary theatre where artistic ambition and civic engagement unite. Vision: act envisions a world where the power of theatre expands our collective understanding of community and our own humanity. Act is a seattle landmark. Since its founding in 1965, the theatre has made and continues to make a significant contribution to the vitality of seattles downtown neighborhood and arts community; it has valued and elevated the work of local artists for more than 50 years; and it has transformed individual lives through the power of storytelling. Act is committed to connecting authentically with new audiences, partners and people, bringing them insight into our shared contemporary culture. We are committed to making theatre as an act of citizenship to engage audiences in understanding the issues of our time.

Act contemporary theatre produced its 49th annual staging of 'a christmas carol,' which served 11,400 single ticket patrons. The organization expanded its educational outreach by adding an additional student matinee and presenting three sold-out student matinees, providing theatrical experiences for 1,600 students and teachers.

Expenses: $1.4M

Act education programs develop community members as artists and citizens through outstanding experiential theatre training in the context of civic engagement and community building. Acts flagship education offering is the young core company. The ycc was designed to recognize the need for teen arts programming that is welcoming to all and follows a pay-what-you-choose tuition model to eliminate cost as a barrier for participation. Ycc is a quarterly program that allows teens to participate year-round or for a single session.
