To advance the study and promote the teaching of slavic and east european languages, literatures, and cultures on all educational levels, from elementary through graduate school.

Held an annual conference for members. The aatseel conference is an energetic gathering that focuses on the aesthetic, creative, and communicative aspects of slavic cultures, which have long been considered to be among the world's richest and most provocative.
Other program activities include book awards; teaching, service and scholarship awards; information on teaching during the war in ukraine; resources for graduate students; professional development opportunities; high school outreach initiatives; and much more.
