Symposium: The 2024 AMCP Foundation Symposium convened diverse health care stakeholders to explore strategies toimprove medication use and outcomes for underserved populations. Through a combination of plenary sessions, working breakout discussions, and collaborative solution-capturing, participants examined critical challenges and identified actionable strategies to reduce disparities. A key outcome of the symposium is theBlueprint for Action, a document that outlines concrete steps for stakeholders to address systemic medication access, affordability, and adherence issues.

Expenses: $149K

Emerging Trends: AMCP Foundation's Emerging Trends Initiative leverages robust survey data and expert perspectives to outline key developments within the broader health care landscape that are likely to significantly impact managed care pharmacy. In 2024, the initiative highlighted future trends across information technology, therapeutics and diagnostics, payment models, pharmacy operations, and public policy verticals. The findings were published in The Journal of Managed Care + Specialty Pharmacy (JMCP) and used to facilitate discussions between health care stakeholders, focusing on providing opportunities to collaborate on solutions.

Expenses: $97K

P&T Competition: AMCP Foundation's National Pharmacy & Therapeutics (P&T) Competition attracted 47 schools and colleges of pharmacy. Teams of student pharmacists analyzed a case study involving a drug product dossier, requiring the evaluation of research and the completion of a monograph along with additional components. Five teams were selected to compete in live presentations held at the AMCP Annual Meeting, where they presented to a panel of judges representing a P&T committee. The goal, in this annual competition, is to provide student pharmacists with a firsthand view into the complex practice of managing a formulary and an opportunity to gather and critically analyze scientific, clinical, and economic evidence in a systematic and rigorous fashion.

Expenses: $57K

PGY-1: The PGY-1 Managed Care Pharmacy Residency, a partnership between a health plan and the AMCP Foundation, provides early-career pharmacists with hands-on experience that combines clinical training with national-level engagement. In 2024, two residents completed a four-week rotation at AMCP/AMCP Foundation headquarters, where they deepened their understanding of how the organizations engage stakeholders to advance best practices through initiatives like the managed care pharmacy workforce survey, Patient Voice Initiative, and Precision Medicine Initiative. Residents gained insight into grant development, CPE accreditation, legislative priorities, and the policymaking process, while also exploring strategic planning across various organizational structures. The rotation equips participants with the knowledge and skills to become future leaders in managed care pharmacy.
