Adirondack Community Action Programs Inc

Nutrition program - provides services and benefits that counteract conditions of starvation and malnutrition; provides oversight services to children and adult food programs and provides nutrition to economically disadvantaged children and adults; provides nutritious meals to seniors 60 and older at both senior centers and through home delivered meals. The program also provides a link to services and information for seniors as well as provides food service for the local hospital.

Jobs and workforce education and training - the workforce investment act and temporary assistance for needy families programs assist unskilled, unemployed, under-employed, or economically disadvantaged residents in acquiring the skills necessary to obtain and retain employment and end dependence of needy parents on government benefits. The internet express/mobile broadband outreach program provides free computer access and training at libraries and community outreach sites.

Weatherization - the weatherization program helps homeowners and renters make their home more energy efficient. Some services provided by this program are as follows: furnace efficiency testing; distribution system balancing; weather-stripping; caulking; glass replacement; insulation; window and door replacement; and repairs to protect and preserve weatherization measures. The major source of revenue for this program is from government grants.

General community services - community services block grant provides services to assist low-income individuals to secure and retain employment; provides emergency assistance and counteracts starvation and malnutrition; provides transportation and other social linking skills. Senior citizens transportation provides services to the elderly who are in need of transportation to and from various places where medical and other services are provided. Emergency food and shelter program supplements and expands ongoing efforts to provide food, shelter, and supportive services for needy families and individuals. The general fund provides services to the general community in forms of food, christmas funds for children, daycare, transportation for the elderly, and other needed services.
