Supporting Adoptees through Mentorship and Mutual Aid (SAMM) was a year-long research initiative, in partnership with the University of Washington-Tacoma and A.I.R.E. Roots (Adoption, Identity, Race, Exploration), designed to strengthen peer mentorship for youth and adults with lived adoption experience by providing mentors with training, resources, and their own peer support network. Using participatory research methods, the project explored what adoptees need in mentoring, trained community mentors in evaluation skills, developed a training curriculum, and conducted focus groups to gather insights. The findings were shared back with the community and are intended to be further disseminated through conference presentations and scholarly articles beyond the project's initial timeline.
