Mission

ACB, an affiliate of the Center for the Book of the Library of Congress, is a non-profit, all volunteer organization celebrating the richness and diversity of language. We were founded in 1991 to stimulate public interest in literacy through the spoken and written word.

Programs

Alaska Reads: An Alaskan book/author is chosen to be promoted around the State of Alaska with author visits, readings and workshops. This is a two year program.

National Bookfest in Washington D.C. An annual event sponsored by the Library of Congress. We send one or two delegates to man the Alaska table. Every state is represented by a table clebrating books and reading specific to their States. Funding provided by the Library of Congress.

Creative Writing Contest.A statewide open to the public creative writing contest with categories for adults, teens and youth. Small cash awards for top winners.

Annual CLIA Award: An award given to one or more individuals or organizations for Contributions to Literacy in Alaska. Recipient receives a plaque and recognition.

Various literary programs to promote and support literacy in Alaska including attendance at annual Ak Library Conference, event to celebrate Native Heritage Month, and other events.
