Alaska Heat Smart promotes actions that mitigate the high cost of building heating systems through the adoption of energy efficient systems powered by renewable energy. Housing and Urban Development Healthy Homes Program:Awarded to AHS in 2022, this three-year, $2M program, will improve the health and efficiency of 90 lower income homes in Juneau with fuel-switching assistance, electrical upgrades, weatherization, air sealing, and ventilation improvements.
Congressionally-Directed Spending Program: AHS CHIP (Clean Heat Incentive Program):Awarded to AHS by the Department of Energy via support from Alaska's senior senator Lisa Murkowski, the AHS CHIP serves lower to modest income households in both Juneau and Sitka, offering financial incentives to income-qualified applicants between $1,500 and $3,000 towards the cost of a heat pump installation.
