Mission
Founded in 2008, the mission of the all-star orchestra ( the organization) is to make accessible, for free, the joy and understanding of classical music to the widest possible audience through public television and the world's largest educational website: the khan academy. To achieve this the organization produces, films, and records classical and contemporary orchestral masterpieces in a concert hall, with the resulting programs to be broadcast over local, national and interactive public media. The programs include a strong educational component and are inspiring new directions for music education ( 6 million music students reached via khan academy), entertainment, and high-level artistic exposure for a broad and diverse audience. Season one was recorded in 2012,season two in 2014,season 3 in 2016, season four in 2018. ASO Public TV Accomplishments National broadcasts of seven seasons,29 programs on Public Television since 2013, winning ten Emmy awards and the ASCAP Broadcasting Excellence award. Season Four: "All-Star Band Masterpieces"-recorded in 2017 in partnership with the United States Marine Band-premiered in November,2018, and is currently in national broadcast rotation. The ASO program "New England Spirit" was nominated for two emmy awards and won the award for "special event" in May,2019. Season 5 was recorded in August,2019 and broadcast nationally in 2020. Season 6 was recorded IN AUGUST 2022 AND WAS Broadcast nattionally in 2023 winning an Emmy award. SEASON 7 WAS RECORDED IN AUGUST 2023 and commenced National broadcast in October 2024. Planning is now underway for recording of season 8 in 2026.
ASO Online Education Accomplishments Created a unique music education website in 2014 in partnership with the Khan Academy that in 2018 is reaching over 6 million students worldwide. Original content produced by ASO includes: Basics of Music, Instruments of the Orchestra, Masterpieces in Performance, Work Analyses, etc. Featured in Musical America as an "Innovator for 2016." Future plans include continual growth of music educational content, with a goal to reach 10 million students in the next year.New content is regularly being added. Lessons are being translated into multiple languages to reach students world-wide
