Allegheny Goatscape Inc

AGS contracts with the City of Pittsburgh to work on intentional City-owned property, primarily City Parks and vacant lots, to provide invasive species management. In 2024, Allegheny GoatScape addressed 20 acres through their contract. In addition to land management, our staff provides outreach events at many of the working locations to share with the public the importance of native species and how goats provide a valuable service in supporting the local landscape care. Additional support for these projects were subsidized through non-discretionary donations. All revenue supports winter care of the animals when they are not actively working on landscaping service projects.

AGS is part of a consortium of organizations under the Pittsburgh Tree Canopy Alliance. Federal funding was awarded to address tree canopy issues throughout Allegheny County, PA, with Tree Pittsburgh as the manager and fiduciary of this multi-year project. AGS works with other partner organization in specific neighborhoods to provide invasive management services as a comprehensive management strategy to add more trees to local spaces where they are needed. In 2024, AGS addressed approximately nine acres of unwanted vegetation through partner partnership site selection. In addition to land management, our staff provides collaborative outreach events at many of the working locations to share with the public the importance of native species and how goats provide a valuable service in supporting the local landscape care. All revenue support winter care of the animals when they are unable to provide landscaping services.

AGS contracts different organizations, municipalities, companies and land owners to address invasive plant species issues throughout Allegheny County, PA. We use the same model across our projects as we do with the City of Pittsburgh and our Pittsburgh Tree Canopy Alliance projects. In 2024, AGS addressed 26 acres across 15 different projects. Some of the highlights included the GAP Trail along the Monongahela River in Homestead, fee for service provided by Waterfront Association; private wooded area, fee for service provided by Heinz Estate; Hays Woods Park, fee for service provided by The Pittsburgh Parks Conservancy; wooded area adjacent to new development in Fairywood, Pittsburgh, fee for service provided by RIDC; overgrown areas on Penn State University - Greater Allegheny Campus, fee for service provided by the Penn State University; and others.
