During the past fiscal year allen memorial provided 1,000,000 in funding for the support and upkeep of catholic cemeteries inc. Which includes the catholic cemetery of mobile, alabama and saint margarets cemetery of montgomery, alabama. These cemeteries were founded in 1848 and 1863 respectively when the concept of "perpetual care" was not in place. This has led to significant deficits over the years. In 2017 allen memorial contributed 890,000 to assist in the maintenance of the catholic cemetery of mobile. This additional contribution of 1,000,000 will allow for continuing improvements and maintenance for both cemeteries. It should be noted that catholic cemetery of mobile is listed on the national register of historical places and is the site of over 18,000 burials. Cemeteries like these are part of a connection with the past. They represent a place where especially our elders can share family history and traditions.
