Mission
Crime stoppers' mission is to empower people to make their neighborhoods, schools, and businesses safer through the anonymous reporting of criminal perpetrators. Crime stoppers raises the awareness of crimes in the seven county region of southeastern michigan.
Programs
3 programs
Law enforcement - this program provides the anonymous tip line citizens can use to report crimes. This program takes the tips forwarded from the call center and relays them to the appropriate police departments in the seven counties served by crime stoppers. This program handles the calls made inquiring about rewards to be paid on successful tips. This program is headed by a retired law enforcement officer that also visits local police departments to encourage better communications and tip sharing. This program also gives talks to citizen groups to encourage them to be safer and avoid scams.
Satellite offices - this program provides a physical presence in the counties served by crime stoppers. This often involves office space in local police departments where our representative can have easy and direct contact with local police departments. This provided citizens an easy way to reach crime stoppers in their community and learn more about the services provided. This also provides an easier way for communications on tips received for that community.
Prison program - this program goes to prisons and communicates the crime stoppers message. Prisoners are encouraged to call in when they hear of information regarding crimes. Visits are made regularly with new messages that play on monitors in the prisons. Telephones are set up in the prisons that allow prisoners to call crime stoppers in a secure manner. Faith based program - crime stoppers has a faith based outreach program which takes the crime stoppers message to the churches and church groups. Crime stoppers provides speakers to church and community meetings to share the crime stoppers message of safety in the community. Anonymous tip program - crime stoppers has a call center and rewards program which incurs the expenses of the call center services and the rewards paid out for successful tips. The remote call center provides a safe and anonymous way for a potential tipster to call in with information of a local crime, and to receive a reward if their tip is used in solving the crime and leading to an arrest.
