Amache Alliance

Amache - Sand Creek Massacre Youth Ambassador Program. As of December 1st, 2024, we have completed the first two of three engagements with a Youth Ambassador Cohort of 12 people ages 14-23, increased from the originally proposed 10. Adult educators, chaperons, and program leadership planned and guided the overall program which included site visits to both the Amache National Historic Site and Sand Creek Massacre Historic Site. The participants were able to engage in several cultural activities which helped solidify their new friendships while learning about different traditions. We completed debriefing sessions with community educators and support staff, and a comprehensive reflection survey for youth Ambassadors is in progress. Massacre Foundation. All but one of the 12 original ambassadors returned for this second phase. Youth ambassadors and their families participated in four days of relay-running and cultural activities between the Sand Creek Massacre site and Denver, approximately 200 miles. This was an extremely impactful event that built stronger ties between ambassadors and the landscape, their shared histories, and other members of the Cheyenne and Arapaho community.

Fundraising film project grants for post-production and support the project team's efforts to take film, Procession, on an opening film tour show in 2025. Procession is an intense, intimate, and poetic short film about generational trauma, horrors of history past, and memory. The film was born via way of family stories, extensive research, and an extremely dedicated team, who believe that remembrance is the best way to heal. The film follows a young Japanese American girl, June during the week her family is issued the executive order 9066, to be moved to incarceration camps. The film storyline fast forwards to the early 2000s, where June is now in her late 60s, and is going on a bus pilgrimage back to the site she was incarcerated at as a child. The Amache Alliance successfully supported the community fundraising efforts with successful grant applications.

National Park Foundation Storytelling Project. Amache Alliance Storytelling Project starts the implementation and of an exhibit showing the activities at the Recreation Hall 11F which is one of the restore structures at the Amache site. The implementation is guided by a previously funded project that created the Rec. Hall Interpretive Plan.

Project to create a website and display the products and artifacts from the Amache Silkscreen Shop. Project costs include the labor and digitization of artifacts from the Japanese American National Museum collection. Association of Print Scholars Collaboration grant has allowed the Amache Alliance to create a website dedicated to the Silk Screen Shop, and to reproduce images of all of the objects known to have been printed at the shop. The new website can be accessed through a link on the website of the Amache Preservation Society, a community organization that works in collaboration with the Amache Alliance. Annual Amache Pilgrimage Support. The Amache Alliance is an organizer for the annual pilgrimage back to the Amache National Historic Site for former internees, descendants and supporters. The Amache Alliance coordinates volunteer activities with the National Park Service and provides food for the volunteers.
