The aad's communications team provides strategic oversight and direction that guides the development and implementation of multi-faceted communications programs aimed at reinforcing dermatology as a specialty committed to advancing quality patient care through state-of-the-art scientific research and encouraging public understanding of skin health, the impact of skin disease on patients, and behaviors that promote healthy skin, hair, and nails.

In addition to the annual and summer meetings, educational activities are delivered through live and digital formats that include virtual meetings (vmx), regional courses, question of the week, dialogues in dermatology, journal of the american academy of dermatology (jaad) and other various educational tools in order to support dermatologists in staying current in practice and medical certification.

Journal of the american academy of dermatology - the official clinical journal of the academy is published monthly and features original, peer-reviewed articles on the latest advances in the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of dermatologic disorders. Its audience includes dermatologists, pediatric dermatologists, dermatologic surgeons, dermatopathologists, residents, and physician assistants and it is indexed in index medicus, science citation index, current contents/clinical medicine, and medline. It has a circulation of about 17,500.

Science, research, quality and practice - includes the distillation and rating of evidence and dissemination of best practices in the practice of dermatology via clinical practice guidelines, performance measures, and other tools, scientific support for public and health policy messaging and educational programs, and survey research.
