Mission

The American Academy of Neurology (AAN) is the leading voice in brain health. As the world's largest association of neurologists and neuroscience professionals with more than 40,000 members, the AAN offers access to continuing education, essential practice tools, research grants, networking and advocacy opportunities, and more. Our mission is to enhance member career fulfillment and promote brain health for all. A neurologist is a doctor who specializes in the diagnosis, care and treatment of brain, spinal cord and nervous system diseases such as Alzheimer's disease, stroke, concussion, epilepsy, Parkinson's disease, multiple sclerosis, headache and migraine. The AAN exists for the benefit of its members, to do the things collectively that would be nearly, if not completely, impossible to do individually. No matter the stage of their career or their role in neurology, our commitment to supporting members' professional growth is evident in all we do throughout the year.

Training/Tools/Resources: The AAN continued in 2024 to offer resources that help members enhance the efficiency of daily practice operations and provide optimal patient care. To help members stay on the cusp of new technological advances, the AAN created resources for navigating AI, formed the AI Oversight Work Group to identify gaps and opportunities in this area, and launched a virtual Coding Lab to provide important coding resources.

0

Publications: The publication of scientific, scholarly, and practice-related content is a vital part of the AAN's activities. This work is essential to the careers of our members and the advancement of neuroscience, which aims to discover prevention and treatments for brain disease. The AAN's publications offer this content and resources to members and provide an opportunity to generate revenue that helps keep membership dues low. Several of these important publications saw enhancements in 2024. The AAN's flagship Neurology(R) journal shifted print publication from four issues to two compendia of continuously published articles per month, streamlining publication and reducing the publication's carbon footprint, and our Brain & Life(R) Books series published a new book for patients and caregivers navigating restless legs syndrome.
