To advance the specialty of physical medicine and rehabilitation, promote excellance in physiatric practice, and advocate on public policy issues related to persons with disabling conditions.

Publications and communications - the academy provides a monthly scientific journal (pm&r)to the members. The academy also provides a print newsletter 10 times per year, a bi-weekly online newsletter, monthly resident newsletter, quarterly council newsletters, and member email blasts that comunicate updates in the field of pm&r, activities of the academy, its members and strategic committees. The academy offers phyzforum, an online member community, and assesses member needs through market research studies. The academy website is a resource for members as well as the public. The academy continues to raise awareness of the benefits of rehabilitation and the field through the website and patient education brochures.
Hpps/quality - the academy helps our members navigate the continuous changes to guidelines, reporting measures, and other practice requirements. The academy is committed to providing resources and support to help define physiatry's value in medicine and lead physiatrists through the transitions occuring in the business of health care.
Education - the academy is its members primary source for continuing medical education. Education offered by academy helps members keep current on new developments in the field of pm&r as well as sustain the core knowledge and skills needed to maintain licensure, certification, ect. In addition to its annual assembly, the academy offers live courses at various locations nationally, online learinging opportunities via its online learning portal academe, educational activities via its peer-reviewed scientific journal, pm&r and online, clinical resources via pm&r knowledge now.
Membership - aapm&r offers its members opportunities for networking, enrichment and career advancement. Through membership, members have exclusive access to 9,000+ member physiatrists who are thought-leaders in the field. Connecting with their pm&r community helps members develop and improve their practical and clinical skills, stay current with the latest physiatry news, share best practices and expand their circle of peers.
