Each year, aabe local chapters and national office advertise the scholarship program, solicit, and conduct the initial screening of applications from eligible candidates. Candidates must demonstrate academic merit and achievement. They must maintain averages of a, or b (3.0 or better on a 4.0 scale), overall. After a rigorous review process, the national scholarship committee award scholarships to students representing the association's six regions. Additionally, a premier award of $5,000 is awarded to the candidate that was judged to demonstrate the most outstanding achievement and promise. Awards are announced in the spring/summer and payments are made directly to the college or university upon presentation of proof of enrollment at an accredited college or university.
