The american battle monuments foundation (abmf.org) supports the education and outreach efforts of the american battle monuments commission (abmc.gov) abmc is the federal agency responsible for all 26 american military cemeteries and 31 monuments or memorials in 17 foreign counties. More than 233,000 american service members are buried or memorialized (remains missing) at abmc hallowed sites away from the homeland.

Programs

Past is prologue essay contest- received 723 applications. Students aged 11-18 competed within their age group with essays about one of two topics related to wwii d-day. Awards for 1st, 2nd, 3rd prize ranged from $1,500-$10,000. Boeing gifted abmf $100k in 2023 for the 2024 contest. Expenses were about $158k, which included staff time to manage the project.

Honoring gold star mothers & families- was held at the abmc east coast memorial in battery park in september. Approximately 40 people attended. The event included speeches, wreaths-laying, and a reception at a near-by historic tavern. The budget for this was included in the overall corporate partners program budget and some funding from each corporate partner was dedicated to it.

Expenses: $19K

Salute to service- was hosted by jpmorgan chase at their headquarters offices in washington, dc. About 50 people attended. It included a panel discussion with a four-star retired general, a three-star retired general, and the former secretary of veterans affairs. It also included presentations about veterans day from an abmc historian, as well as the story of a "soldiers journey" the public art bronze recently installed in pershing plaza. As well as other programs promoting public awareness.
