After the fall of roe, our legal team took the fight for abortion access to kentucky state courts. We are challenging two abortion bans that have ended abortion access in the commonwealth, save for procedures done under limited, emergency circumstances. The kentucky supreme court denied our request to reinstate a lower court's temporary injunction in the case, determining the health care providers we represented did not have standing to bring the issue. We spent the fiscal year working to identify a patient plaintiff willing to challenge the bans. We identified a plaintiff and filed a lawsuit in december 2023, but it was dismissed a few days later when the patient miscarried. Apatient plaintiff was identified in fy25 and a challenge to kentucky's abortion bans has been filed. And other services.

Unfortunately, the jail deaths crisis at louisville metro department of corrections continued with more lives lost in the facility during this fiscal year. Aclu-ky continues leading a community coalition called the community stakeholders to end deaths at lmdc. Quarterly meetings with director collins and monitoring of the new healthcare contract are key activities, and our efforts to slow the flow of people into the troubled, understaffed facility are ongoing. Along with allied organizations and partners from the justice system, we hosted another amnesty court docket across three days in louisville, jefferson county to reduce the number of folks with bench warrants hanging over their heads. 174 people were able to get their cases taken care of (300 cases in total)and the coalition covered approximately $80,000 in restitution payments.
