Founded in 1932, the AFL educates the public about the life and career of General Lafayette through programs and publications. A Gazette is published semi-annually, with both scholarly commentary and reports of events conducted by the AFL and other Lafayette societies.

JUST AS LAFAYETTE'S VISIT IN 1824-1825 WAS AN IMPORTANT PRELUDE TO AMERICA'S JUBILEE YEAR, 1826 - AS LUCY PENHALLOW OF PORTSMOUTH, NEW HAMPSHIRE WROTE ON SEPTEMBER 2, 1824, THE CHANCE TO FINALLY EXPRESS DEEP GRATITUDE PERSONALLY TO THE HERO OF THE REVOLUTION "MADE ME FEEL TEN TIMES MORE OF AN AMERICAN THAN I DID BEFORE" - SO WILL THE BICENTENNIAL CELEBRATIONS IN 2024-2025 SERVE AS THE OVERTURE TO OUR COUNTRY'S 250TH ANNIVERSARY IN 2026.
