American kennel club companion animal recovery (akc car)'s mission is to promote identification of pets and reunite lost pets with their owners. Akc car also supports animal relief and recovery efforts during natural or civil disasters, including providing grants to law enforcement agencies throughout the united states in furtherance of these efforts.

Animal relief and grants: assisting local emergency management planning and response to help people and their pets and to assist other canine related charities. During 2024, akc car provided grants to police departments to purchase approximately 200 k-9s and approximately 35 grants for disaster preparedness and relief efforts. Akc car donated 6 pet sheltering equipment trailers. Akc car also donated microchip scanners to animal shelters and rescues.
