American Sign Language Teachers Association Inc

Asl honors society assist asl teachers to establish student organizations in the school where they teach to encourage and recognize high academic achievement in asl studies for high school and college students. These honor societies give asl language students the opportunity for leadership, to earn community service hours, hold asl literature competitions, received competitive scholarships to students studying asl in college, support asl teachers to obtain equipment and materials to improve teaching, and recognize students with cords or medals for graduation ceremonies in their respective schools.

Other programs outreach create and distribute educational materials for teaching asl and deaf studies to teachers and to educate the public and promote excellence in teaching. Affiliate chapters support affiliate chapters whose primary mission is to provide professional development opportunites for teachers of asl and deaf studies. Community outreach represented aslta members and mission at national conferences. Initiated electronic e-newsletter and e-blasts social technology and facebook communication to improve communication with members, promotion of workshops and conferences and reduce costs.

Aslta is a national organization of american sign language and deaf studies teachers with a mission to perpetuate, preserve, and promote american sign language asl and deaf culture through excellence in teaching.
