ASBMB holds an annual meeting at which its members and other scientists present scholarly papers and discuss current research and issues in the field of biochemistry and molecular biology. In addition, ASBMB organizes several conferences and webinars to facilitate the exchange of science.

ASBMB supports the professional needs of its membership through its work with committees, as well as education and professional development activities, communications to inform and engage members through a quarterly magazine, and other programming to meet the needs of its membership.

ASBMB supports public affairs and outreach, which is responsible for monitoring, commenting, and communicating to its members on legislative and regulatory issues of interest to the Society and its membership.

ASBMB offers a variety of scientific and travel awards to support and recognize its members and achievements in science.
